1) What are the key areas in which you learned new skills/information about technology this semester?
Some key areas where I learned a lot of new information this semester were definitely in the podcasts and ibooks. These two projects really opened up my mind to how sharing and teaching information can be attained so greatly and interactively when using technology. I especially liked that these two resources had a lot of opportunities for students to connect and interact with their education in modern ways using the resources available to them. I found it really interesting about what these two types of digital resources have the capability to do, and was shocked at how they can improve a classroom learning environment.
2) What are the key areas in which you increased your knowledge about integrating technology into your teaching?
Like I mentioned before, the podcast and ibook resources and projects I learned about were an eye opener. I was fascinated at the fact that these tools could be integrated in the classroom and could be very effective for a student's learning. The podcasts and ibooks are great resources because of how they provide interactivity and set examples for students to engage and reflect on. This makes their learning experience not just enjoyable, but also deeply connected to the material they are learning. After having the chance to learn about these sources, I have been fascinated how they can be so effective and helpful for a music classroom.
3) Of all the topics we addressed this semester, which one (or more) would you still like to learn more about?
One topic I would really like to learn more about is the educational podcasts. When I did my project, I chose a topic I had a lot of information on, and it seemed similar to giving a recorded lecture for a history topic. What I would like to challenge myself to do is see how I can use a podcast to not just teach history, but different musical concepts such as rhythms, phrasing, improvisation, etc. I was also really amazed how using audio examples in a podcast can really add to the lesson, and it has gotten me curious how I can implement the knowledge I learned from podcasts this semester into a classroom of my own one day.
4) How would you compare or contrast what you learned this semester from the way technology was used by your teachers during your K-12 schooling?
In my K-12 schooling, I don't recall using technology too often, especially in the music classrooms. In cases where we did use technology, it was used for purposes like playing an online interactive game, or using a resource to help with a project or assignment. During this semester, I got the chance to discover some great technological resources in ways that I didn't think I could have used before. I would really be curious to see what my K-12 schooling would be like if we did have access to podcasts, ibooks, and lesson strategies, and how that would have affected my education.
5) How would you describe your attitude toward technology now compared to the beginning of the semester?
My attitude towards technology has changed greatly after this course. Before coming into this class, I was not the biggest fan of technology from previous experiences I had using outdated software or lesson videos, and instead preferred a one- on -one experience in a classroom. After seeing the advancements and possibilities that technology has made today, I have become much more curious and open to using these great resources and tools to help students in the classroom and have the best modern and effective learning experience possible. As a future teacher, I will definitely keep in mind using these resources in order to attain a great learning experience for my students.
