BioB Larry Shea was born in Milford, Connecticut and has been involved with music since he was eight years old. He currently is one of the music teachers at Wilson Middle School in Natick, MA where he teaches Band and General Music. Before working at his current position, Larry student taught in the Concord Public Schools in Concord, MA where he taught grades 4-8 Band, Jazz band, Wind ensemble, and K-5 General Music between five schools every week.
In 2018, Larry received his B.M in Music Education as a Guitar Principle from Berklee College of Music on Boston, MA. He currently is a Masters Candidate at the American Band College of Central Washington University where he plans to receive his M.M in Music Education in the Summer of 2022. Besides his work in the Public Schools, Larry teaches several students privately throughout the greater Boston area and beyond. In addition, Larry has served at several events for the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Recently, Larry took the role of serving as a manager for the 2020/2021 MMEA Eastern District Junior Festival Jazz Band. When Larry is not in the classroom teaching, he also plays solely and with different groups throughout the Boston area. While at Berklee, Larry co-founded a student-lead group called The Education Collective; a student-lead jazz ensemble that allowed music education majors to practice pedagogy and popular music performance. His work at Berklee lead him to meet and work alongside artists such as Imagine Dragons, Isaac Slade (The Frey), Terrance Blanchard, Sean Jones, John Patitucci and many more. Larry has aspired to be a music teacher for a great part of his life, and feels that sharing the gift of music to the world is serves an incredible purpose. As an educator, he strives to create an open and comfortable classroom environment, and truly believes that everyone should have the opportunity to find how music can shape their lives in a positive manner. Being educated through various music programs and mentors has affected Larry's life incredibly, and he intends to affect the lives of others by serving as a music educator. |
